The University of Bern faces major challenges. Some of the building infrastructure is outdated or will soon be insufficient. Digitalization is transforming demands in teaching, research, and collaboration. And discrepancies between Switzerland and the EU have a direct impact on whether or not Switzerland can continue to be a leading center for research.

Therefore the university management approved a large program for the development of the University of Bern entitled "Fit for Future".
